Minnesota Center for Book Arts Celebrates 30 Years:

For 30 years, Minnesota Center for Book Arts has led the advancement of the book as an evolving art form. We envision a world where book art is created, cultivated, celebrated, and understood as a vital and lasting expression of culture.

MCBA’s thirty-year heritage demonstrates how traditional craft intersects with contemporary content. In celebration of our 30th anniversary in 2015, we are proud to present a yearlong series of exhibitions, public programs, classes, celebrations, and honors, all of which reinforce our role as a leader in shaping and defining the field.

Events take place throughout 2015, including exhibitions, open houses, special events and much more. The centerpiece of our yearlong celebration was our 30th Anniversary Gala, which took place on July 25 during Book Art Biennial 2015. The anniversary celebration continues into the fall and winter with these upcoming events:

 

Exceptional: Handmade Paper Beyond Substrate
October 23, 2015 – February 7, 2016
Opening reception Friday, October 23; 6–9pm
Paper is often thought of as just the material art is created on. Exceptional explores handmade paper itself as a powerful messaging device. Co-curated by Jeff Rathermel and Mary Hark.

MCBA/Jerome Book Arts Mentorship Series V
November 6, 2015 – January 10, 2016
Opening reception Friday, November 6; 6–9pm
This exhibition marks the culmination of a year-long immersion in the book arts by six mentorship recipients from diverse artistic backgrounds. Sponsored by the Jerome Foundation.
