ARTIST
COOPERATIVE
Artists who are interested in using MCBA's equipment
outside of a class may rent the equipment on an hourly
or project basis. For greater studio access, artists
may apply for membership in a MCBA's artist cooperative.
Co-op members gain access to a wide range of equipment in MCBA's papermaking, binding and printing studios. Members also have the opportunity to share techniques, get feedback on their artwork, and collaborate on projects.
Members of the artist cooperative pay a monthly fee
of $100. In return, members receive:
- 24-hour access to
the MCBA studios and equipment, providing such use
does not interfere with a scheduled class or event.
- On-site artist storage
- Exhibition opportunities in MCBA galleries
- Referrals and resources for outside exhibitions
- Study, teaching, and mentor opportunities
- Interaction with a community of working artists
- 70/30 split on work accepted for sale in The Shop @ MCBA on consignment
The artist cooperative at MCBA is open to individuals who have demonstrated an appropriate level of experience in the area/s to which they are applying (i.e. papermaking, binding, and/or printing).
Co-op members must make a 6-month commitment and demonstrate competence in equipment use. The monthly co-op fee is $100, of which up to $50 is payable with volunteer hours.
Monthly meetings take place the first Tuesday of the month. Applications to the cooperative are reviewed and accepted by current co-op members and MCBA staff.
