Some bookbinding experience helpful but not required
This week-long flurry of bookmaking will feature both paperback and hardcover blank books, assembled using a variety of folded and sewn binding styles: accordion and concertina books, Japanese "stab" binding and single- and multi-section stitches. Simple pamphlet bindings will provide a review of basic skills for measuring, folding, sewing, and gluing, followed by more challenging applications of those skills. Choosing and preparing materials, and finding suppliers will also be addressed. Extensive samples and discussion will provide ideas for images and objects that can be incorporated into artists' books, exploring appropriate structures for specific content, and methods for including text and image on the page.
