Introduction to Binding or equivalent experience required
With the new technology of printing spreading across Europe in the 16th century there was a need for a new simpler binding style. Sewn-on tawed leather thongs with sewn endbands with a laced-on folded paper cover: this binding filled the need. Using handmade paper students will construct this early paperback. Variations using different materials will be discussed along with the contemporary uses of this binding structure.
