Japanese Woodblock Printing
with Emily Hoisington
Saturdays, June 9, 16, 23; 9am-4pm
All skill levels welcome
Make a multi-color woodblock print from start to finish while learning a portable, water-based printing method. Japanese woodblock printing uses watercolor inks applied with a brush and printed by hand, which makes this an easy technique to continue at home. Learn to separate colors, transfer a design, carve a woodblock, and sharpen tools along with techniques for printing gradations and textures. Students are asked to bring a 5x7” drawing to the first class. Supply fee includes a set of carving tools for students to take home. For students that already have carving tools, the supply fee can be reduced to $50. This workshop may be repeated and the instructor will adapt the material to both beginning and advanced students.
