Saturday, October 14; 9am-noon
For children ages 6-8
$55.50 regular, 49.95 member, $38.85 low-income

In this fun comics class, students are introduced to the standard building blocks for producing a successful comic story: character and story development, conceptualizing a main protagonist; developing a narrative for their main characters to inhabit. Once we have the building blocks down, we'll practice our new found skills in our own hand-bound sketchbook while also learning to utilize the variety of effects that different kinds of panels have on story, how they interact with one another across the page, and how text and dialogue are used to enhance our work. The remainder of class will be dedicated to allowing students to apply their story to a hand made mini-comic book they'll create in studio space at MCBA!

Saturday, October 21; 9am-5pm
Letterpress I or equivalent experience required

Color is often one of the most intimidating elements of art, but it can also be one of the most powerful modes of visual expression. In this one-day class, we will discuss color theory, practice efficient and precise methods of mixing rubber-based ink according to the Pantone Matching System, and experiment with printing colors on the page. Working as a group, we will produce a small book of samples in which to make notes and to use as a reference for future projects.
