Whisper: Jiyoung Chung's Joomchi
May 6 – June 24, 2011

Opening reception Friday, May 6; 6-9pm

The ancient meets the contemporary in Whisper: Jiyoung Chung's Joomchi. Using the traditional Korean technique of joomchi, a papermaking and felting process, artist Jiyoung Chung crafts delicate, simply composed canvases that demonstrate extraordinary depth and skill.

In this exhibition of medium- and large-scale work from her Whisper-Romance series, Chung explores the relationship between humans and the divine.

Whisper is co-sponsored by the Surface Design Association (SDA) in conjunction with Confluence, the 2011 International Surface Design Conference, presented by the SDA and Textile Center, June 9-12, 2011. For more information, visit surfacedesign.org.

On June 5-8, the artist will be offering a 4-day "Joomchi and Beyond" workshop as part of Confluence; through April 30, registration is reserved for Conference attendees, SDA members or Textile Center members. After May 1, enrollment opens up to non-members for any remaining spaces. For more information, view the conference prospectus brochure.
