Here: An Artist's Book, Text and Images by Rachel Fish

This exhibition presents the work of MCBA artist-in-residence Rachel Fish. Rachel's beautiful portraiture prints begin as photographs of the artist's making; each print is created from a handmade printing plate made completely from layers of cut paper, then printed on a Vandercook letterpress -- a process known as pressure printing. The series of prints are presented unbound.

"I believe that everything is interconnected and that if we can see ourselves as connected to one another, that is the root of compassion. I feel that compassion makes it more difficult to harm or support the harm of others. It is my intention to use art as a catalyst to practice compassion and my hope that by sharing that experience with my viewer I will inspire compassionate thought in others. This collection of text and image is the result of a six-week artist residency at Minnesota Center for Book Arts, which began with me hitting the streets of Minneapolis, asking to take photographs of people. I was able to engage in conversations with individuals and experience communities I might not normally have the opportunity to. It was my desire to honor Minneapolis, my hometown, and its rich, diverse population." - Rachel Fish
