Youth and Family Classes

Youth and family classes allow kids and their adults to work side-by-side to create fun and unique books, handmade paper, and printmaking projects.

Explore the techniques and tool used in the world of book arts. MCBA’s family and preschool classes support literacy and pre-literacy skills, develop manual dexterity, and spark a lifelong love of books and art. Our age ranges are listed below.

Both child and adult will receive a set of materials for each project. Each pair may choose to work side-by-side and independently complete two projects, or they may work together using one set, and take the other set home. Children ages 9 and up may take family workshops with an adult or independently.

Register ONLINE using the buttons below, IN PERSON at The Shop at MCBA, or BY PHONE at 612-215-2520.

Siblings, cousins, grandparents — bring the whole family! Additional participants (children or adults) are always welcome; simply click the registration button for the class, then you can select the number of additional participants. If registering additional children, please include their name(s) and age(s) in the field provided during Step 2 of the registration check-out process.

In this class, you’ll use the same tools that grown-up writers use: creative metaphors, lively verbs, careful attention, and information from all of the senses. We’ll work together in the printing, paper and binding studios as a book artists to create a unique book that shows what your world is like right now, a book that shows exactly what you notice, sense, and feel in your regular life. You’ll end up with a book, made by you, that is perfect to give as a gift to a faraway friend or relative, or to keep for the future.
