Jeff Millikan: The Insect Manuscripts

Jeff Millikan’s series The Insect Manuscripts involves a very unique collaboration — between humans and insects. By constructing a series of specialized beehives, Millikan can introduce an altered book or object, on which the bees build their honeycomb. He then alters their work by cutting, melting and reshaping, and the bees repair or respond with alterations of their own — a fascinating and truly unique process. The exhibition included the resulting sculptural forms as well as large format photographs.
