WINTER / SPRING 2012

Thematic Pop-Out Books
with Jill S. Weese
Monday, January 23; 6-9pm
For teachers of grades K-12

One sheet of paper with a little folding and cutting can be transformed into a house, a city scape, a cave, a sea scene, a fish, or an airplane -- the possibilities are endless. Learn how to design a theme-based pop-out book and create templates that you can use with your students. Easy for younger students, these books are also great for older students as they create their own custom designs. Participants will make several different pop-out books that they can immediately apply in their classrooms.
Core or Advanced Certificate: 3 hours, Category D

$50 ($45 members) + $5 supply fee

Poetry-Inspired Books
with Jill S. Weese
Monday, March 19; 6-9pm
For teachers of grades 2-12

A snowflake book for winter snow poems... a Japanese receipt book for haikus... the structure of a book can support students' poetic writing in dynamic ways. This workshop will focus on making book structures to support popular poetic forms, i.e. acrostics, cinquains, haikus, and more. Participants will make five different structural poem books that will be easy to replicate in the classroom. Great ideas for National Poetry Month.
Core or Advanced Certificate: 3 hours, Category D
