Cinquain Series
with Georgia Greeley
Sunday, April 6; 10am-4pm
Open to youth ages 11 and up
All skill levels welcome

If you like to write books and are curious about bookmaking, this class is for you! Focusing on the topic of your choice, you will construct a hard cover accordion book featuring a series of cinquain poems that you write in class. Bring your words to life by illustrating the pages with collage. Page design will be emphasized. This one-day class will give you many of the skills you need to continue writing and making books on your own. No experience necessary. Please bring a bag lunch.

BOOK ARTS INTENSIVES FOR TEENS

A combination of instruction and open experimentation, these week-long workshops are designed to give talented high school artists a chance to explore book arts in a professional studio environment with high-quality faculty and materials. Teens will learn advanced techniques usually only taught at the college level, and then use studio sessions to experiment and delve into those techniques. Help your teen get started building an exceptional interdisciplinary portfolio. Open to students ages 14–18.

Teen Printing Intensive
Monday–Friday, June 23-27, 9:30am-12:30pm; studio sessions Tuesday & Thursday, 1-4pm
Get acquainted with the letterpress! Students will create editions of prints using a variety of printmaking processes including pressure printing, linoleum block relief printing, metal and wood typesetting and more.

Artists Books: Books Without Boundaries
Monday–Friday, August 11-15, 12-3pm; studio sessions Tuesday & Thursday, 3-5pm
Explore some of the infinite possibilities of the book form! Learn a variety of bookmaking techniques and then use studio sessions to experiment, combine, and create.

$350 ($300 members) per session

WRITING AND BOOK ARTS CAMPS WITH MCBA & THE LOFT


Paint and Word
Monday–Friday, July 21-25
10:45am-2:30pm
For students ages 13-14

Explore new ways to combine written word and visual image in this Asian-inspired writing and bookmaking class. First, create haiku, cinquain, and other short poems. Then make scrolls and hard-cover accordion books that combine your writing with sumi-e, an ancient Asian ink painting technique. Students will get to take home their own ink and brush set.

$170 ($155 MCBA or Loft members) plus applicable supply fees ($5-$10). Register through The Loft Literary Center at 612.215.2587.


TEEN ARTIST CO-OP

Check out MCBA's By Design teen artist program for beginning and advanced artists ages 15 to 18.
