MCBA offers a wide variety of workshops for children, from pre-school through grade 12.
Field trips and workshops for schools
Working in partnership with teachers, MCBA teaches children how to make paper, print, and/or bind a book. MCBA's flexible lesson plans and knowledgeable staff make it easy to integrate book arts with curriculum through standard and custom workshops. Our teaching style balances a mix of direct instruction and individual creative expression. During hands-on workshops in MCBA’s studios or in schools, students demonstrate classroom knowledge through new experiences. Whether creating a class anthology or expressing their knowledge of a core subject through book art, students feel a sense of accomplishment in their completed work.
Pre-school workshops
MCBA’s classes for preschoolers provide authentic studio art experiences for children 3 to 5 years old and an adult partner. Classes provide an introduction to the book arts that focuses on pre-literacy skills. Each class starts with a story time with books that tie into the art activity. Adults are active participants in the classes, learning and working alongside preschoolers on a variety of hands-on activities. See current offerings...
Family workshops
Throughout the year, MCBA offers a sampler of one-session classes for families to experience the book arts together, as well as free workshops in the MCBA studios. See current offerings...
Youth workshops for individuals
MCBA's workshops for youth are often offered in collaboration with other arts-minded organizations such as The Loft Literary Center and the Twin Cities' five centers for art. See
