Covid Safety Guidelines September 2022

Covid Safety Guidelines

For visitors to the Shop and Main Gallery*

Minnesota Center for Book Arts is committed to fostering a healthy and safe environment for all visitors. We follow the current CDC and Minnesota Department of Health guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some things to expect when visiting MCBA.

*Additional safety measures are required for staff, teaching artists, studio users, and in-person workshop participants. If this applies to you, please review the guidelines below.

Mask Requirement

Everyone over the age of two is required to wear a mask inside MCBA’s spaces (Shop, gallery, and studios), regardless of vaccination status. This policy is in place to protect our community, so please wear a mask that fits properly and covers your mouth and nose. If you forget to bring one, we’ll hand you one at the door.

Feeling sick? Stay home.

We ask that you stay home if you have had a positive COVID-19 test in the past 10 days. We strongly encourage anyone experiencing Covid symptoms and/or who experienced a recent exposure to test negative before coming in, and to wear a well-fitting KN95 mask at all times.

Physical Distance

Please be respectful and maintain a minimum of six feet between you and the person next to you, unless you are part of the same party. Currently, the areas open to the public include our Main Gallery, Outlook Gallery, and the Shop at MCBA.

Ventilation

Open Book has increased outside air to support building-wide ventilation and upgraded the filtration used in its HVAC system. MCBA has installed air purifiers in its Shop, galleries, and print studios.

Hand Sanitizer Stations & Routine Cleaning

Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout MCBA. High touch areas will be cleaned regularly.

Disclaimer and Assumption of Risk

While MCBA is taking the precautions listed above, there can be no guarantee that you will not contract the COVID-19 virus during your visit. You are responsible for the observance of health and safety practices recommended by public health authorities, including wearing a face covering at all times.

All of us at Minnesota Center for Book Arts appreciate your adherence to these policies to keep our creative community safe. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us via email at mcba@mnbookarts.org.

Parking & Door Access

Free parking is available in the east parking lot adjacent to the Open Book building. Additional metered parking is available on Washington Avenue and surrounding streets. Please use the front door on Washington Avenue to enter.

For staff, teaching artists, studio users, & in-person workshop participants

Since MCBA resumed in-person programming in the fall of 2021, we have  implemented some additional safety measures to keep our community as safe as possible. As of February 10, 2022, proof of vaccination and booster dose for those eligible* will be required for all MCBA staff, teaching artists, studio users (Artist Collective members, Fellows, tutorial students, and studio renters), and in-person workshop participants. Visitors to MCBA’s Shop and Galleries will not be allowed to enter MCBA’s studios and will not be required to show proof of vaccination at this time, though this policy is subject to change.

*Studio visitors 18+ are considered eligible for a booster dose under the following timeframes:

    • after 2 months since receiving 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
    • after 5 months since receiving the second dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine

By signing up for in-studio programming at MCBA, you agree to read and follow these protocols:

Vaccination Mandate

If you are a member of the above list and are eligible* for vaccination and a booster dose, you are required to provide proof before the start of your activity with MCBA. Please upload your proof of vaccination or medical exemption information below.

Notarized Exemptions

If you are unable to receive the vaccine, MCBA requires proof of a negative COVID test from those with a notarized medical vaccination exemption. This applies to anyone over 5 years of age who will be entering MCBA’s studios. Negative test results must be dated less than 72 hours prior to your initial visit to MCBA’s studios. For multi-week workshops, a new negative COVID test result must be submitted weekly. Please upload your exemption and test results below.

masking policy

We ask that you wear a mask in MCBA’s spaces to continue to keep our staff and clientele safe. While face masks will not be required in Open Book’s communal spaces, MCBA (as well as the Loft Literary Center and Milkweed Books) reserves the right to implement its own organizational masking policy.

when to Stay home

Stay home if you tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days. To inquire about receiving a gift certificate for a workshop or Studio Lab you are unable to attend due to a positive Covid test, email workshops@mnbookarts.org.

If you have any Covid symptoms or have had a recent exposure, we ask that you:

      1. Take a Covid test (with negative results) within 6 hours of visiting MCBA
      2. Wear a well-fitting KN95 mask (MCBA can provide one upon request if available)
      3. Monitor your symptoms and if they worsen, stay home

Wash and/or sanitize your hands when you arrive and frequently during your time in MCBA’s studios. Hand sanitizer and sinks with soap are located throughout the studios.

Social distance by maintaining 6 feet between yourself and others as much as you can. Cover your face when you cough or sneeze by using the inside of your elbow.

Food and beverages may be consumed at break times in communal spaces. Please social distance and eat outside when possible.

When visiting any public place during the pandemic, there is always a risk of exposure to COVID-19. When visiting MCBA, you voluntarily assume all risk knowing that COVID-19 is extremely contagious, and that for some people it can lead to severe illness and even death.
