Explore the playful book and toy form known as Jacob’s Ladder. First, various examples will be displayed and manipulated. Then, through the use of book board, ribbons, and imagery or text, participants will complete an eight-paneled book that can be displayed in multiple configurations.
Instruction will equip participants with skills to create more Jacob’s Ladder books, including more complicated versions, after the workshop. This virtual workshop is designed for those with intermediate binding skills and requires one hour of prep (detailed in materials list).
Certificate: 2.5 hours, Category A
$48/participant (10% discount for MCBA members)
$25 for BIPOC participants (10% discount for MCBA members)
*We are offering a reduced rate to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) participants to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom this does not apply, register at the rate listed first and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make reduced rates available.
What you’ll need to participate: For this participatory virtual workshop, we recommend you join on a laptop or desktop computer with a microphone, if possible. A camera is optional. You will receive step-by-step instructions for downloading Zoom (it’s free!) and accessing the workshop online approximately 2 days before the workshop’s start date. You are responsible for sourcing your own supplies from the materials list and completing the required materials prep. Teaching artists will answer questions about the materials list and prep in advance of the workshop.
This workshop is full. Add your name to the wait list and you’ll be contacted if another section of the workshop is scheduled.
