Mazel Tov (Congratulations)! Shalom (Peace)! Ahavah (Love)! Experience letterpress printing while making cards with MCBA’s new collection of Hebrew wood type. This in-person workshop is designed for those new to letterpress printing with a desire to build skills and community through playful experimentation with Jewish-themed designs! Text and simple backgrounds will be pre-designed with type locked up in presses in advance to maximize printing time and allow for the basic concepts of printing to be introduced. Participants will have some creative input with ink colors and may select and hand-set a word or short phrase (as a group) in wood type to print. Participants can choose from a selection of cards at the end of the workshop and all will come away with ten to fifteen cards and envelopes.
This workshop introduces participants to some technical skills required for letterpress printing, but participation in Letterpress 1: Printing Basics, Letterpress 2: Setting Type, and Letterpress 3: Two-Color Postcards is needed in order to attend Letterpress Labs to print independently in MCBA’s studios.

$35 for BIPOC/Financial scholarship participants (10% discount for MCBA members) + $20 materials fee
MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
