Minidewak: Readings from Braiding Sweetgrass

MCBA’s 2013 Winter Book, Minidewak: Readings from Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, features letterpress-printed illustrations by Christopherson inspired by nature and tradition. “Reading Robin’s book inspired a new awareness of the intimate world around me, and informed my illustrations of the pattern of a black ash basket, the texture of moss, the edge of a lake where the water meets the shore, and a honeybee at work.”

The Island

The Island is an artistic exchange between Christopherson and writer Josiah Titus, designed and typeset by Karl Engebretson. The narrative is set on Madeline Island, Wisconsin in winter; sample illustrations and an excerpt from Titus’ text appear here. The book was published in January 2014 with support from a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. For price and purchase details, contact the artist: nate.christopherson@gmail.com
