Get acquainted (or reacquainted!) with MCBA’s wet studio and paper beaters. Learn how to safely operate MCBA’s Reina and Hollander beaters for sheet forming and sculptural paper projects. Learn the idiosyncrasies of each beater and which fibers are best for each kind of beater, along with the process of recovering the beater and wet studio.
This in-person workshop is designed for those who have experience with MCBA’s paper beaters and are in need of a refresher before registering for a Papermaking Studio Lab to work independently on personal projects. This workshop is also ideal for participants of virtual European Papermaking at Home who would like to learn how to process pulp at MCBA.
Certificate: 2 hours, Category B
$45/participant (10% discount for MCBA members) + $5 materials fee
$25 for BIPOC participants (10% discount for MCBA members) + $5 materials fee
We are offering a reduced rate to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) participants to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom this does not apply, register at the rate listed first and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make reduced rates available.
All in-person program participants are required to be vaccinated and to wear a mask while in MCBA’s studios and the Open Book building. By registering for an in-person program, you agree to these terms. See our COVID protocols for more information.
Please note: Registration closes 12/9 at midnight (CT).
