MCBA offers internships in the following areas:

Adult Programs

8-10 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Tasks include assisting with Adult Education enrollment including verifying class schedules, Certificate Program registration and studio calendar maintenance, workshop prep, checking workshop supplies and Adult Programs publicity.

Youth and Community Programs

1-2 days per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Tasks include assisting instructors with teaching and facilitating book arts workshops, studio set-up and clean up before and after instruction, supervising children, prepping workshop materials and occasional administrative duties.

Studio

8-10 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Tasks include cleaning and studio organization, some basic studio maintenance duties including oiling presses, refilling solvents, cleaning screens, and refilling supplies as well as directed studio-specific projects; some lifting required.

Winter Book

8-12 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Assist seasoned book artists in the production of Winter Book, MCBA’s annual publication. Tasks include letterpress printing, cutting paper on the guillotine and board shears paper cutters as well as other tasks related to Winter Book production. Letterpress experience required; cutting equipment experience helpful. Applicant should be highly attentive to detail. Production is slated to begin in late September and will continue through November. Daytime availability will be helpful.

Exhibitions

8-12 hours per week; 11-week minimum commitment
Tasks include daily exhibit maintenance, assisting with preparation, installation and de-installation of exhibits, researching, stocking and maintaining exhibit equipment and supplies and helping with special events.

Library

8-12 hours per week; 11-week minimum commitment
Tasks include sorting, organizing and processing materials; data entry; directed library-specific projects; and helping with other tasks as needed.

The Shop

8-10 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Tasks include pricing and restocking inventory, cutting paper, book board, and cloth, packaging and shipping artists’ work, and some data entry; some lifting required.

Development

8-10 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Tasks vary but may include membership development, database assistance, grant research, copy writing, annual fund support, drafting of social media content, transcription, filing, assisting with MCBA mailings, and general office support & organization as needed.

Marketing/Design

5-10 hours per week; 10-week minimum commitment
Focus is on web development and WordPress platform; WordPress experience desired but not required. Tasks may also include photography, social media, and/or database maintenance/data entry, and occasionally assisting with MCBA mailings, depending on your skills and interests.
Please note: there will be no Marketing/Design internship offered in Spring 2016.

 

For students interested in a 15-20 hour per week internship, duties for two departments may be combined at the applicant and MCBA’s agreement.

Internship opportunities are unpaid. In addition to on-the-job experience and being part of the vibrant downtown arts community, interns receive a free one-year membership to MCBA. After completion of 100 hours, interns qualify for a free MCBA Adult Education class or workshop of up to 12 hours (intern must pay supply fee if applicable).

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the following internship periods:
Spring (January to May): applications due December 15
Summer (June to August): applications due May 1
Fall (September to December): applications due August 1
