“She Tore Her Clothes in Sorrow memorializes the people who died while homeless in Minnesota in 2018. Elements of the installation include a tunic, 100 pieces of “torn cloth,” and a bound book. Paper panels, printed with an intaglio technique to create a woven pattern and then letterpress printed with the 99 names of people who died, are sewn together to create a tunic. The squares of paper beneath the tunic are also created using an intaglio technique to give the impression of torn cloth.  The bound book contains data from the 2018 Wilder Research study on homelessness in Minnesota, as well as quotes from people such as Maya Angelou, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton about the importance of home and belonging.”
