Feed your curiosity, stretch your creativity, and get your hands dirty!

MCBA offers classes for adults on a wide variety of topics and at all skill levels, from total beginner to seasoned expert. Supply fees cover workshop materials and expendable studio supplies such as solvents, rags, waste disposal, safety supplies and small tools. Sales tax is included in the total.

Adult classes are eligible for credit toward MCBA’s Core Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Book Arts; more information is available on the Certificate Programs page.

Please make every effort to register at least one week in advance of any class. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add a section are typically made one week prior to the start of the class. If online registration for a class is not available, you may call The Shop at 612-215-2520 to inquire about availability or put your name on a waiting list in case of any cancellations. Experience the intersection of two crafts: beer-making and book arts! This fall MCBA is proud to offer two workshops in collaboration with Northeast Minneapolis' own Dangerous Man Brewing.

Experience letterpress printing and learn a simple binding in this workshop inspired by Dangerous Man Brewing. Print the cover and pages for a beer tasting guide on the first night at MCBA. Then learn how to bind the book on the second evening at Dangerous Man Brewing where a first entry can be made in the tasting guide! Due to the nature of this activity, registration is open to ages 21+ only.

Experience the magic of marbling! Learn the basic process of marbling with acrylics, including recipes for the various components of the process. Make four basic patterns (stones, moire/waved, git-gel, and nonpareil), explore seasonal color palettes, and take home your own marbled papers ready to use for books, gifts or decoration.

Do you keep a visual journal? Do you wonder how others approach this art form? Would you like an opportunity to get to know peers and be inspired by their work? Are you interested in a forum for exchanging information on the newest pens, paints, and other supplies? Do you want to commit time to practice your drawing skills or find a sketching partner? Do you just want to touch base each month with people who understand journaling? Attend a meeting of MCBA's Visual Journal Collective! This group is open to all visual journal artists of any skill level. We'll discuss methods, materials, and media. Group members will be encouraged to participate in round-robin journals and theme projects. At every meeting we'll have discussion, share our work, and engage our minds with a fun journaling exercise.
