Objectifying the Book Object

Objectifying the Book Object
with Wilber H. “Chip” Schilling
Free Roundtable Artist’s Talk Friday, April 24; 7pm
Workshop Saturday and Sunday, April 25–26; 10am–4pm
All skill levels welcome

In this class students will work with a small object of their choosing. Through free association and word generating techniques, students will write a series of words to describe their object. These words will then be printed letterpress on a sheet of paper that will be used to make an enclosure to house the object. Students will focus on content creation and gain basic skills in letterpress printing and simple structure models to enhance content development.

In celebration of our 30th Anniversary, MCBA hosts This is Book Art, a series of free presentations and reduced price workshops throughout 2015, offering opportunities for interaction, discussion and skill-building with leaders in the field. Normally $290 or more, these workshops are discounted thanks to special support from the Minnesota State Arts Board. All skill levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced.

Workshop participants also receive free admission to the Book Art Biennial Symposium (July 25-26, 2015) and an opportunity to share their artwork as part of our community exhibition, Parts of a Whole III (August through October 2015). Visit our This is Book Art page for more details on the entire series.
