The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library has named a collaborative group as the winner of the 2020 Minnesota Book Artist Award for their collective efforts on the new artist’s book My Mighty Journey: A Waterfall’s Story. This annual award is presented as part of the Minnesota Book Awards with Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA), and recognizes a Minnesota book artist or book artist collaborative group for excellence in new artistic work. Minnesota Center for Book Arts announces recipients of MCBA/Jerome Foundation Book Arts Fellowships

Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) is pleased to announce the recipients of our fifteenth series of the MCBA/Jerome Foundation Book Arts Fellowships:

  • Austin Nash, printmaking
  • Shun Jie Yong, photography
  • Collaborative team Sarah Evenson and Jade Juno, illustration and printmaking

Three jurors, reflecting diverse perspectives and expertise, reviewed the 29 applications received to select the winning fellows.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts presents the MCBA/Jerome Foundation Book Arts Mentorship Series VII Exhibition

Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, MCBA/Jerome Book Arts Mentorship Series VII.  The exhibition will be on view from November 1, 2019 to January 27, 2020 in MCBA’s Main Gallery, featuring exciting new work from this year’s MCBA/Jerome Book Arts Mentorship recipients: inter/anti-disciplinary artist Rebekah Crisanta de Ybarra; artist Daniel McCarthy Clifford; poet and sound artist Chaun Webster. The opening reception is free and open to the public on Thursday, November 7 from 6 to 9pm with artists’ remarks at 7pm.

New Editions Celebrates More Than 50 Local & International Book Artists

Minnesota Center for Book Arts hosts two-day showcase of all-new book art, including a public sale and book arts-themed Story Slam

As a hub for artists of all kinds—bookbinders, papermakers, letterpress printers, and more—Minnesota Center for Book Arts has devoted two days solely to the celebration of new book art created within the last year. The event kicks off on Friday, October 18, 7-10pm with a ticketed preview party, followed by a juried public sale on Saturday, October 19, 10am-3pm.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts Launches McKnight Fellowships for Book Artists

Two exceptional artists in the field of book arts will receive fellowships of $25,000 each

For the first time, two fellowships—which include an award of $25,000 each, as well as professional development experiences, opportunities to participate in national conferences, and public discussions with visiting critics and curators—will be available in 2020 to book artists living in the state of Minnesota.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) presents Mimic: Modern Marbled Objects, an exhibition that examines the history and craft of marbling, from book arts origins to present day sculpture, fine art, and other decorative objects. This exhibition was co-curated by Torey Erin (MCBA Exhibitions and Artist Programs Manager) and Heather RJ Fletcher (visual artist and innovator of HRJ DesignStudio). Connecting the local community to national masters of the form, MCBA’s marbled-themed exhibition and educational programs engage, inspire, and focus attention on contemporary applications of this vibrant traditional craft.
