Friday, March 13
In an effort to support social distancing, limit community spread of COVID-19, and keep our staff and community as safe as possible during this time, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close to the public.
Workshops. We have postponed all youth and adult education workshops, tours, and school field trips between Monday, March 16–Sunday, April 5. Private workshops scheduled for March 14-15 will continue to run as normal.
Events. We have postponed all public events for March and April. This includes:
- Jerome Fellowship artist talk – March 24
- HMML lecture: Cut, Eaten, Burnt, Stained: The Perilous Life of Old Books – March 26
- HMML lecture: Books Ripped Away: Secularization and the Removal of Monastic Books to State Libraries – April 16
We have rescheduled the following public events:
- Bound / Unbound exhibition reception – new date: June 4 (originally April 9).
Shop & Gallery. Our retail store and gallery will remain closed until further notice.
Studios. At this time, we are providing private access to MCBA’s Artist Collective. We are enhancing our cleaning schedule of common areas, equipment, and tools; we are also requiring that all users follow strict handwashing guidelines while in our facility.
Staff. We are making preparations for staff to be able to work remotely beginning the week of March 16.
We have entered a challenging time — one that we have not yet had to face together. We acknowledge our need as humans to connect and create, and we are exploring new ways to stay connected with you during this time of social distancing.
We are grateful to each and every one of you as we work together to safeguard public health and protect our community. Our board and staff are closely monitoring the recommendations regarding COVID-19, and as the situation continues to develop, we will be in touch to share updates.
From all of us in the MCBA family, wishing you and your loved ones health and resiliency in this difficult time.
MCBA Executive Director
