Exhibition Reception: Craft & Conceptual Art

MCBA Main Gallery
Friday, September 22, 6–8pm
Free and open to the public

Join us for a reception celebrating Craft & Conceptual Art: Reshaping the Legacy of Artists’ Books, a traveling exhibition of book art from the 1960s to the 1990s. The curator, Megan N. Liberty, Art Books editor at the Brooklyn Rail and co-founder of Book Art Review, will be visiting from New York. Local artists Harriet Bart and Philip Gallo will also be in attendance.

Enjoy snacks and good company while discussing the thought-provoking work on display, Liberty’s revised book art timeline, and a wall chart that places artists on a sliding scale of Craft, Concept, Unique, and Multiple.

Organized by Center for Book Arts, this exhibition reconnects artists’ books to craft by creating a meaningful link between conceptual art and craft, historically placed at odds.
