Nooshin Hakim Javadi is a sculpture and performance artist from Qazvin, Iran, currently teaching art and residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Javadi’s work is often focused on space and condition, creating objects that are used as symbols for attachment, memory, history, and conflict. Javadi has been working on the project titled One Hundred Lullabies, where she collects lullabies and songs of comfort from people. Javadi collaborates with musicians and artists who grew up during war in the Middle East, to share their stories to a live audience. The story tellers and audience members are invited to share a lullaby in their own language by one child who is displaced from his/her motherland due to war. Each song will be archived using a music box with paper strips. The music boxes will be on view in MCBA’s Outlook Gallery, where viewers are able to listen to a song by turning the music box’s handle, watching the paper stream through the box.
