Join us for Press Play*—a free, community letterpress printing event in MCBA’s studios!
Minnesota Center for Book Arts recently acquired wood type (pictured above) in more languages to increase accessibility to letterpress printing, an art form that has empowered people to connect and communicate with others for centuries. Make two pre-designed prints featuring messages of solidarity and justice in five languages—Arabic, English, Hebrew, Spanish, and Swedish—with artists Nancy Ariza, Robyn Awend, Andrea Shaker, and Emma Wood. Experience printing on three types of presses—an iron hand press (14–18th centuries), a platen press (18–19th centuries), and a Vandercook cylinder press (20th century)!
Taking inspiration from the words of Toni Cade Bambara, (Make the revolution irresistible) and bell hooks (Love is an action, never simply a feeling), MCBA holds community at the center of this printing event.
*Formerly known as Love Local, Press Play hits refresh on this open-house-style event by focusing on the art of letterpress printing and by activating wood type in five languages.
