Fabric Screen Print Intensive

with Ben Etten and Michelle Lee Lagerroos
Thursdays: May 23, 30 and June 6, 13, 20; 6–9pm CT

Get familiar with MCBA’s screen printing studio and practice the photo emulsion process—from positive creation and screen coating to exposure and reclaiming. Each participant will complete a multi-layered screen print on various kinds of fabric and come away from the workshop with the confidence to work independently at MCBA’s Screen Print Labs

Create your design positives using hand-drawn artwork and/or cut paper stencils. Bring your sketches and ideas to the workshop. Final designs should fit on a letter-sized sheet of paper (maximum width 8.5 inches) and may include up to two colors. Tote bags and tea towels will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring T-shirts to print on, too! Natural fiber fabric works best for the water-based screen printing inks used in MCBA’s studio; we prefer 100% cotton or cotton/polyester blends with at least 50% cotton.

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.

Please note: Registration closes 5/20 at midnight (CT).
