Since as early as 1460, “Ex-Libris” plates have graced the pages of precious books, denoting ownership and identity in relation to personal libraries. This workshop is a six-week exploration of the longstanding tradition of these miniature works of art. Looking at a range of examples from 15th century woodcuts up through contemporary imagery, participants will get an introduction to the intersections between history, design, and evolving print technology. Work with these images to discuss the relationship between personal symbology and identity, and then develop imagery generated from these historical references, cross-pollinated with personal symbolism. Complete four 4 x 5 inch relief prints using linoleum and wood.
